The Mechthild Esser Nemmers Prize in Medical Science
The 2026 Award Winner
Jean-Laurent Casanova, MD, PhD, the Levy Family Professor at Rockefeller University, pediatrician at the Necker Hospital for Sick Children and Imagine Institute in Paris, and investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, known for his discovery of the human genetic and immunological determinants of infectious diseases, is the recipient of the 2026 Mechthild Esser Nemmers Prize in Medical Science.

The $350,000 Mechthild Esser Nemmers Prize in Medical Science is awarded to physician scientists whose body of work exhibits outstanding achievement in medical science as demonstrated by works of lasting significance. Recipients present a public lecture and participate in various on-site scholarly activities at Northwestern University.
